The world\’s biggest miner of nickel and palladium, Norilsk Nickel, has appointed former HSBC resources and energy sector chief Adrian Coates as the company\’s senior adviser on corporate strategy, the group said on Friday.
Coates left HSBC in June, after more than two decades in banking and finance, during which he had a hand in the initial public offering for Billiton and advised on Mittal Steel\’s acquisition of Arcelor.

ASX-listed junior exploration company Pan Palladium Limited’s (PPD’s) shareholders has voted against the issue of shares and options to nickel and platinum group metal (PGM) producer, Braemore Resources, following an earlier heads of agreement over the Grass Valley PGM base-metals deposit, in the Platreef area, in South Africa.
Braemore Resources on Tuesday stated that the companies had entered into the agreement in December 2007.

Ralph Havenstein, former CEO of platinum giant Anglo Platinum, will now head up the international operations of the world’s largest nickel and palladium producer, Norilsk Nickel.
